Earth Junkies Inc became established when two old friends decided they wanted to help preserve our Coastal Areas. Both Tom and Ray spend days on the boat collecting garbage from our waterways, mangroves and beaches. During the Covid outbreak in 2020, when they had free time they went to work removing debris and garbage from the mangroves and beaches.

Unfortunately, birds and other wildlife often get tangles and even perish in fishing line and lures that hang from the mangroves. We are dedicated to search out and gently remove these hazards from Coastal Regions in SWFL, giving the wildlife freedom to live in a safe environment.

Sea turtles such as Loggerhead, and Green sea turtle utilize the mangroves as juvenile nurseries, receiving protection from predators. That area is especially rich in food resources for them. The Green Sea Turtle, the Atlantic Ridley and the Hawksbill Sea Turtle have been observed feeding on mangrove roots and other submerged vegetation.

It unfortunately is not only fishing lines and hooks that pose a danger. Crab Traps and their ropes are often found near the shoreline. These ropes can impede the path that Sea Turtles take to lay their eggs. Female Sea Turtles migrate distances up to 1500 miles depending on where the feeding ground is, to get to their natal beach.

Several wonderful organizations exist that come to the aid of an entrapped Sea Turtle, yet the hazard still remains. We will remove the hazards! We actively search the beaches and shorelines for rope, fishing line and other objects that could potentially snare or entangle Sea Turtles and other Wildlife.
